My Journey with Yoga One and Baptiste Yoga
I found yoga in October 2014 at Yoga One in Charlotte, NC. recently married, my husband and I had just relocated to Charlotte. I was searching for a job and a hobby to keep my spirits up. I was online looking for a group activity and noticed Yoga One had good reviews. I did not have any yoga experience; however, I had taken dance and group exercise classes for years so I thought why not give it a try. I purchased the new student special. I don't remember how many days I went during this period, but I was hooked. There seemed to be a magical connection and an open invitation to join in and just be yourself at this new place. During class I noticed there was an assistance going around the room adjusting people. I thought that was interesting, I wondered what he was doing. After class we spoke and he told me about assisting. He mentioned that there was a training coming up in December and I should look into it. I decided to take the assistant training because I was interested in learning more about the proper alignment in the poses and wanted to help others in their practice the way he did. In January 2015 I started assisting at Yoga One. That year I also took Advanced Art of Assisting when Brandon Campagnone came to Charlotte. I enjoyed Mindy Smolin’s classes the most she has an amazing and uplifting “big sister” energy. And I enjoyed taking Michelle Ramseth’s classes because she landed me in my physicality with her words. All of the instructors at Yoga One were nothing short of amazing. I visited other studios but always felt at home at Yoga One. I was enjoying my practice and assisting, and started thinking of taking teacher training because for the first time in a while I felt like I was on the right path. in 2016 I received my 200 RYT at Yoga One. I was volunteering at Dress for Success and offered to teach a Yoga class at a wellness fair they were hosting at the YMCA. This was the first class I taught. I realized how
alive I felt helping empower other women and making a connection with them. I continued to assist at Yoga One and started assisting the Prenatal classes as well. July 2017 I joined the teaching team at Yoga One. I knew I wanted to take Baptiste Level One when I started teacher training in 2016; I was not sure when I would go but I knew I wanted to at some point. Before I left my HR job I started saving my money for the training. I was journaling and realized I was ready. "You are ready now!" I said to myself hearing Baron’s words in my head. I completed my level one training and did a prenatal training as well. I wanted to learn more about how to safely teach this special group. I have a special place in my heart for mothers and although I am not yet one, I feel that women have a special bond and need for community and support during this time. We have all gone through hard times in our lives and The Yoga One and Prenatal community have been a constant for me. Yoga One is a place where I can restore and reconnect to the most important fundamental attribute of being human; connection. I am sure that if you are open to experiencing this connection you will find it at Yoga One as well.
I am empowering.
